Church History

In October of 2000, the Vision of Nehemiah Christian Center Ministries was birthed in the spirit of Bishop Ronnie L. Lee. However, it wasn’t until February of 2001, after much prayer that the power of God turned this vision into a reality. Bishop Ronnie L. Lee who is an ordained & license minister of God organized this church whose History we now celebrate. Under the leadership of the Holy Spirit and the support and encouragement of Bishop Willie L. Jordan Nehemiah was established to provide religious services, assist the needy through spiritual counseling, humanitarian efforts and the teaching and preaching of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

On February 25, 2001, Nehemiah Christian Center Ministries held its first service. This service was held in the City of Robbins, Illinois in the lunchroom of the CEDA building located at 3518 W. 139th Street. On this day God blessed Nehemiah Christian Center Ministries with 7 members.

Due to the increase of Nehemiah, in October of 2001, Nehemiah was blessed to acquire rental space at the Robbins Recreational Center located at 13800 S. Trumbull Ave.

Since the inception of this vision, Nehemiah has conducted street evangelism and door-to-door campaigns that have resulted in an increase to our ministry, as well as food, clothing and toy drives.

On January 21, 2002, Nehemiah held its 1st Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration in the city of Robbins, where over 200 people filled our auditorium to celebrate the remarkable accomplishments of Dr. King as well as other prominent African Americans.

In August 2002, Nehemiah hosted its first “Gospel Concert” which was sponsored by the Nehemiah Praise Team. Over 1,000 individuals packed the St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church located in Harvey, IL in support of Nehemiah’s endeavors.

In September 2003, the Lord blessed Nehemiah to purchase a 4,000 sq. ft. building located at 3002 Claire Blvd. Robbins, IL.

In 2004, a 6 month campaign was held by the members of Nehemiah which was called “SOS”; Saving of Souls. The members went to their unsaved family members and took to the street the word about giving their lives to God.

On November 6, 2004, the Youth department of Nehemiah held its very first Cotillion and banquet celebration.

In October 2007 Nehemiah sold its church location in Robbins due to a lack of space to effectively carry out ministry, and held services at Eisenhower High school in Blue Island IL.

In August 2008, we transitioned from Eisenhower High School to our present sanctuary here in Harvey, IL. As a result of God’s continued favor, we were able to complete major renovations on this property and, we look forward to future renovations.

In June, 2009 NCCM hosted the 1st Annual “State of the Black Family” Forum @ Thornton Township High School where the Honorable Louis Farrakhan & Father Michael Phleger were amongst the guest panelists. NCCM also held a “Stop the Violence” Rally in August, 2009 in the parking lot of Fifth Third Bank in Harvey, IL.

Nehemiah has seen its worship service move to higher levels in the spirit and in 2009 God added an 8:00am Early Morning Worship Service.

Also, in 2009, the Youth & Christian Education Department held their second Debutante Cotillion cultivating the lives of all the youth who participated.

Nehemiah has developed many ministries in the church, which give members the opportunity to work for God; hence “So built we the walls.” There is room for all who are willing to; serve and do kingdom building work.

Through God’s grace, Nehemiah has a devoted Ministerial staff, all of who dedicate themselves to the strengthening of this church.

We have seen the hand of God active upon the members of NCCM through; miraculous healings, financial blessings and strengthened lives.

We thank God for ordering our steps and for adding to the church such as He sees fit. We know that there is much more work to be done however; we thank God for the accomplishments that Nehemiah has made over the last 11 years.

Our eyes are fastened on the future because we are confident that greater is in store for Nehemiah Christian Center Ministries.

We rest on the timeless words, “We’ve come this far by faith leaning on the Lord; trusting in His holy word He never failed us yet”
